Greatest need with the least access to care

Cincy Pediatric Dentistry is a organization composed of board-certified pediatric dentists in the Cincinnati community that have come together to provide dental care services for children that require general anesthesia.

Founded by Dr. Rudolph and Dr. Vaughan, our mission is to bridge the gap in pediatric dental services by providing critical access to quality care for the most vulnerable among us—children facing significant dental challenges, many of whom have been unable to receive timely treatment due to a shortage of providers and limited operating room availability. In recognizing the pressing need within our city, we established Cincy Pediatric Dentistry with a clear vision: to serve children with the most urgent dental needs and the least access to care.

Our focus is on patients requiring extensive dental treatments that necessitate the use of an operating room or general anesthesia.

Our innovative approach lies in our ability to operate independently from traditional private practices. Cincy Pediatric Dentistry is uniquely credentialed to accept referrals directly for operating room procedures, dramatically reducing wait times for essential dental care. We collaborate closely with a network of referral partners, including private practices, children’s hospitals, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), and school dental clinics. This network is vital to identifying and referring children who can benefit most from our specialized services.

A cornerstone of our practice is our commitment to inclusivity. We proudly accept Medicaid and can work with uninsured families, breaking down financial barriers to ensure that all children, regardless of their insurance status, have access to the care they need.

Our partnership with Cincinnati Children's Hospital allows us to reserve operating room time specifically for our patients, further alleviating the backlog of children awaiting dental procedures in our community.

At Cincy Pediatric Dentistry, we are more than a dental practice; we are a dedicated team striving to make a tangible impact in the lives of children across our city. By enhancing access to specialized dental care, we are not only addressing immediate health concerns but also fostering a healthier, happier future for our community’s youngest members. Together, with our referring partners, we are committed to transforming pediatric dental care in our city, one smile at a time.

services

Our commitment to exceptional care for young patients extends to those who require the specialized approach of general anesthesia for their dental treatments.

Understanding the unique needs of children, we recognize that certain dental conditions, particularly in the face of extensive decay, medical complexities, or challenges with cooperation due to young age, necessitate treatments under general anesthesia. These circumstances often mean that traditional dental procedures could pose risks or undue distress for the child. Our approach is rooted in the belief that no child should be subjected to restraint or discomfort during dental care when a more gentle and effective option is available.

The decision to utilize general anesthesia is not taken lightly. It is arrived at through a careful, collaborative process involving experienced pediatric dental practitioners. These professionals possess deep knowledge of child-specific dental issues and are adept at considering all possible care alternatives. Parents and guardians are integral to this process; we ensure they are fully informed about the risks, benefits, and available options, engaging in open and thorough discussions. This ensures that when the decision is made to proceed with general anesthesia, it is with the clear objective of preventing infection, alleviating pain, and preserving the child’s dental health in the most considerate and safe manner possible.

While we specialize in dental care under general anesthesia, we do not provide long-term comprehensive dental home services or ongoing care for children. Our role is to address acute dental needs in a specialized setting, after which we recommend that children return to their primary dental providers for continuous and preventive care.

Dr. Vaughan is driven by a clear and compassionate goal: to ensure that no child in our community waits more than a month for necessary dental care. Understanding the critical issue of prolonged wait times due to a shortage of providers and operating room availability, Dr. Vaughan is committed to creating a system where every child in need can be seen and treated within a month. The vision is to work alongside community providers to build a network capable of supporting timely care for all children, ensuring that no child has to endure pain or delay in receiving dental treatments. This commitment to eliminating wait times and addressing the care bottleneck reflects Dr. Vaughan's deep-seated belief that timely access to dental care is a right, not a privilege, for every child.

funding prevention

In the perfect world, dental disease in children would very rarely reach the necessity of these services in the operating room.

In our effort to minimize this need, Cincy Pediatric Dentistry is investing a significant portion of all collections back into preventative programs to better educate and provide dental home access for all children. More on this to come.
